Joanna received her BA in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara where she also received minors in Applied Psychology and Educational Studies. Prior to graduate school, she worked at the University of California, San Francisco Center for Health and Community and the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, where she led various studies examining the link between psychosocial stress and biological markers of health. Her research interests surround stress and resilience in children and adolescents, particularly the stress-buffering role of close relationships (e.g. parent-child, interparental) and exploring the role of machine learning and wearable technology in understanding how children's social environment predicts stress and stress-related disorders. Outside of the lab, Joanna enjoys making and appreciating abstract art, evening gym sessions, and picking up new hobbies.
